Overview

Functional Finance is seeking a VP, Business Development & Strategic Growth to focus on expanding our platform's footprint, deepening strategic client relationships, and enabling the entire GTM organization with subject matter expertise. Reporting directly to the CEO, this role is critical for maximizing value realization within our existing accounts and driving key strategic partnerships.

The ideal candidate will have a track record of cultivating complex B2B relationships, deep expertise in the insurance industry, and prefer the hustle and freedom of a startup to the predictability of a larger company. We are looking for a problem solver who doesn’t wait to be given instructions, who values collaboration with a team of smart, motivated professionals who care deeply about the success of the business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Account Cultivation: Proactively manage and nurture relationships with existing and priority partners (carriers, MGAs, etc.). Develop deep stakeholder maps within these organizations to identify and engage new champions for broader platform adoption.
  • Expansion and Upsell: Serve as the strategic lead in identifying, qualifying, and initiating opportunities for product upsells, cross-sells, and integration expansions within current client ecosystems.
  • Partnership Management: Drive the discovery and incubation of new strategic partnerships that expand our market reach and embed the Functional Finance platform into new channels.
  • Adoption & Usage: Work with the Customer Success team post-onboarding to ensure clients are fully utilizing the platform to achieve their desired business outcomes, proactively addressing any roadblocks to maximizing their long-term value.
  • Forecasting: Provide market intelligence and data-driven insights to leadership regarding potential strategic growth opportunities and long-term account value.

Qualifications & Skills

Minimum Qualifications
  • Experience consistently hitting targets in strategic business development or complex account management roles, selling into the insurance industry.
  • Understanding of the insurance industry, including familiarity with back office financial operations.
  • Experience engaging with large organizations that have multiple layers of management and competing stakeholders.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience operating in a fast-paced environment, collaborating across teams
  • Prior SaaS experience in an operational, solutions consulting, or sales engineering role in the insurance industry.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with back office financial operations at MGAs, wholesalers, and insurers.
  • Past success working in a startup or other high growth environment.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Range: $170,000-$200,000. Actual compensation may vary based on applicant’s education, experience, skills and abilities, internal equity, alignment with market data, and possibly applicant’s geographic location, as well as with sales performance for incentive portion of compensation.
